Peter of South Pool, Kingsbridge, who launched his own company called Lockabox has shown his potential as a budding inventor. Peter received the award from Judi Spiers and said “It’s really nice to be recognised for some of the things I’ve been doing over the last four years. I’m very surprised. I’d like to thank the people who encouraged me to apply.”

Peter launched Lockabox out of frustration when in 2012 as a 26 year old music student, he had to find a way to stop fellow housemates using his food from the shared fridge. After working on his idea alongside his studies for two years, he entered a grant funding competition at his university. That was the moment when a ‘bedroom idea’ suddenly became a reality.

Lockabox is a hygienic, secure, lockable storage box ideal for a number of uses and market sectors such as retail, medical, healthcare, military and the student accommodation market.

Peter employed the services of Teignmouth based design consultancy, Hillside Product Design Limited, and the injection moulding company, R. W. Simon Ltd to assist in developing the current handmade prototype into a volume-ready product.

It has since been launched in John Lewis stores nationwide.
