WCP Lends a Helping Hand

The Walter C. Parson Group were delighted to present a 3D printer to the Marine Academy Plymouth, which has been sponsored by WCP in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Roborough.

The machine has been donated to the school with the aim of pupils making use of it in Design and Technology lessons to create prosthetic limbs for the charity Abbi’s Helping Hands, which provides prosthetic limbs manufactured using a 3D printer for children with disabilities. The charity is run by the parents of Abbi Jillians and is based in Tavistock.

Abbi had her first prosthetic hand when she was four, which was created using a very similar machine to the one donated, after it was discovered that she was unable to have anything similar made for her by the NHS.

Graham May, Chairman of WCP and a member of the Rotary Club of Roborough said “we are delighted to be able to sponsor this 3D printer which will create a fantastic curriculum project for the children at Marine Academy Plymouth. Designing and manufacturing the limbs is a great opportunity to be involved in a real-life project which will benefit so many people, both in the UK and abroad.”

“Walter C. Parson have supported Abbi’s Helping Hands for quite some time and we hope that this is the first of many 3D printers which will be placed into schools to assist the charity.”
