Action by Christians against Torture – ACAT-UK – was formed in 1984 by the then British Council of Churches, with the active support of Amnesty International and the Society of Friends. We are affiliated to the International Federation of Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture – FIACAT – based in Paris, and are a Body in Association with Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. Our Aims are to work as Christians for the abolition of torture worldwide; to increase awareness of the widespread and evil use of torture; to campaign for its total abolition; to be a powerhouse of Prayer. Our Work is to obtain information on specific examples of torture worldwide; to write letters to governments in countries where torture is practised calling for its abolition; to support the victims of torture and ill treatment; to pray for the tortured and the torturers; to keep abreast of legislation relating to torture. ▼
In memory of a a good and inspiring friend in Billericay
A real privilege to have known Eleanor and worked alongside her for 6 years on the ACAT(UK) committee and meeting at AGM's. She did a vital work in tackling the hard issues of people being tortured and ill-treated.
I'll always remember the kindness and compassion that Eleanor showed to me and to so many others back in her Billericay days. She will be much missed. With love x
To my Aunty Eleanor I will always have such fond memories of our chats. The life you travelled, the stories you shared, the love of your family and cats, and the passion you showed for good causes. all our love xx
In memory of a dear friend.
In memory of a dear aunt and exemplary person. With our deepest condolences
Walter C. Parson Funeral Directors is a family business established in 1842 at Stoke Climsland, Cornwall. It has, either by inheritance or acquisition, remained in the family over seven generations. We strive to deliver a first class service, one which would only be acceptable to a member of our own family. We believe that by maintaining this strong ethos through our staff and by training them to the highest standards of the profession, we are able to consistently deliver this service to our clients. This, in turn, has enabled a small family owned funeral director to grow into a group serving the South West Peninsula, covering Plymouth at St Judes, Crownhill, Plympton and Plymstock; Ivybridge, Tavistock, Callington, Torpoint, Saltash, Newton Abbot, Torquay and Exeter. ▼
