Location(s): Crownhill

At Walter C. Parson Funeral Directors we provide a funeral service for those families who needs us at a time of grief. We pride ourselves in the personal service we provide, acting professionally at all times, and conducting ourselves with sympathy and understanding. This has led us to become one of the leading independent family owned funeral service providers operating along the South West Peninsula in Devon and Cornwall.

We are seeking an Administrator/Secretary to be based at our Crownhill head office, working between the hours of 8.30am until 5pm, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be capable of dealing with front of house enquiries from our clients, assisting our funeral directors with the administration required for a funeral, liaising with other professionals like doctors and crematoria officials and often dealing with confidential, personal and financial details.

You will also be required to take part in the Out of Hours Telephone Rota to allow us to provide a 24-hour service. This rota is shared by all staff and requires you to provide support approximately once a month; however the business needs to ensure that suitable cover is provided for holiday and sickness, which may increase your frequency. You will receive additional remuneration for these duties.

You will need to be well presented, trustworthy, courteous and polite, have a competent telephone manner, be self motivated for periods when lone working, pay close attention to detail, competent with a computer and able to deal with people with empathy whilst at the same time having a smile on your face.

If applying please bear in mind that all of our branches have ‘Chapels of Rest’ facilities and you may be required to assist the families during their visits. There may also be occasions where you are in the branch on your own. A full driving licence is required for the initial training period which will take place in Plymouth.

Previous experience in this sector would be advantageous but is not essential.

A completed application form, which can be downloaded using the links below, is required to apply for this role.

Completed application forms should be returned through this website by 4pm on Wednesday 16th September 2026, however applications will be reviewed as soon as we receive them.
