Norman Anthony Young, born 28 August 1928 in Brighton, passed away quietly on Wednesday 24 January 2024, aged 95 years old.
He had an amazing life despite a difficult last few months. A strong, extrovert character who got involved in many clubs, charities, and associations over the years and with a very wide circle of friends.
He was a man who gave lots of support to his family and many people but especially to eldest son Steve, now deceased, throughout his life despite Steve’s various challenges. He was involved with Mencap for many decades and gave much to the learning-disabled community in general over his lifetime.
He was very active in the business community in Plymouth for over 30 years and was a keen golfer, caravanner, Round Tabler & member of 41 Club. He was devoted to his faith as a Catholic and received his medal for 65 years membership of the Catenians last year. He was also an active Rotarian over many decades and through all these associations he made many friends across the world.
Latterly he was very happy living at Edgcumbe Court, again where he made some good friends and enjoyed an active social life up until late last year. A couple of falls saw him spend 2 months in hospital until we got him out to Torr Home in December to convalesce. Regrettably he never really recovered his old strength and passed away peacefully in the night.
Our thanks go to the wonderful team at Edgcumbe Court for making that such a special home latterly and to the team at Torr Home who have supported us in these last few weeks.
He leaves behind his other son David, daughter-in-law Sue and 4 grandsons, Olly, Toby, Sam, & Elliot.
