NewsSt JudesA SPECIAL POETRY & MUSIC EVENINGA SPECIAL POETRY & MUSIC EVENING Poetry and Music Evening – Friday 27th March 2015 at 7.00pmPopular music and poetry chosen for Plymouth funerals will be the focus of a unique event in March 2015.The music played at funeral services in the city crematoria over the past year will be performed by Helen Welsh and her father Keith Smith. And for the first time Plymouth Poet Laureate Mike Sullivan will recite a poem he created for local bereavement charity Jeremiah’s Journey.Event organiser Wendy Coulton said: “The choice of music and poetry or readings for a funeral is very personal and often reflects the tastes, interests and character of the person who has died. This way of expressing love and grief can be poignant and comforting for the people attending the funeral service.“The style and content may be formal, traditional and patriotic or informal and contemporary with humour. I hope the Expressions of Grief poetry and music event will reflect how unique we are as individuals and show that what we hear at funerals can help to make a sad or difficult experience uplifting and comforting.”The event is sponsored by Walter C.
