There are two types of assistance available, Funeral Expenses Payment and Bereavement Support Payment.

Funeral Expenses Payment (FES) is a government grant from the Social Fund to help people on low incomes or specific benefits pay for a funeral. It covers necessary burial or cremation fees, travel costs, documents, and up to £1,000 for other funeral expenses.

Bereavement Support Payment (BSP) is a tax-free financial aid package for people whose spouse, civil partner, or cohabiting partner has died before receiving their state pension. It consists of a one-off lump sum followed by up to 18 monthly payments where applicable.

All applications can be made online at gov.uk or further information can be found at Plymouth Old Tree Court Jobcentre, 64 Exeter Street, Plymouth PL4 0AJ.
