Unveiling Our Newly Refurbished Premises in Tavistock

We warmly invite you to an open day on 10th July.

Our newly refurbished premises The Stables, in Tavistock, was opened on 3rd July 2025, by the local clergy; The Reverends Matt Godfrey, Sue Tucker and Judith Blowey performed a blessing and dedication of the new chapels.

The company has come a long way since acquiring the business from Tavistock and District Funeral Service in December 2010.

In 2012, we began the process of securing planning permission within the Conservation Area and World Heritage Site to provide customer parking for 6 cars, garaging for 4 large funeral vehicles and an extension to the existing building for client offices and chapels of rest.

Building works started on site in November 2015, but early excavation revealed the ground conditions were poor and 54 piles (some 15 metres deep) were required to ensure that the new development was footed on solid ground.

The piling added considerable cost to the original project, so the decision was made to split the project into two phases.

Phase 1 was completed in June 2017, with the extension built up to foundation level and left to be completed sometime in the future as phase 2 of the project.

In November 2022, phase 2 of the Tavistock project was revisited with a new look at the architects’ plans. This was to ensure we were making the most of the space available and, after much planning and deliberation, work began on site in April 2024.

Our chairman Stephen Ware says, “We looked to provide a modern, personal and professional feel with a warm welcome to those visiting our premises with easy parking, level access and comfortable facilities.”

Almost ten years after the initial building work started on site, phase 2 was completed in April 2025 and now provides a reception, two chapels of rest – which can be opened to create a service chapel for up to 30 people – a state-of-the-art mortuary, garage, staff room and disabled toilet. We have also refurbished the existing offices upstairs, which keeps our street level presence and includes a reception and arrangement offices.

We aim to offer a professional and seamless service with qualified staff to our clients, and have invested in people, facilities and premises for the benefit of our customers. Today we have 12 offices across the South West Peninsula and 40 vehicles in our fleet, but we couldn’t do any of this without all 80 of our staff, managers and directors buying in to the professionalism and commitment to a caring service which we believe is unparalleled.

Our motto: “If it’s not good enough for a member of our own family, it’s not good enough for our clients.”

We are extremely proud of the facilities we can offer clients in Tavistock and are keen to show them off.

Our Tavistock manager, Martyn Hall, and administrator, Caroline Willis, look forward to welcoming you all to an open day on Thursday 10th July 2025 from 11.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. to view the excellent facilities and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.
